12 Fun Weekend Activities That Go Easy On Your Budget
Stop doomscrolling and isolating with Netflix binges running in the background. Get out of the everyday funk with fun weekend activities that won’t break your budget. Here are several creative ways to spend your weekends.
1. Movie Series Marathon

Do you have a favorite film collection or fandom that you enjoy binge-watching once in a while? Enjoy a movie marathon with your favorite snacks while letting a crockpot meal simmer behind the scenes. This can also be a fun seasonal weekend activity, such as having fall movies at Halloween, Christmas movies during the holiday season, or romantic comedy marathons in the Spring.
2. Take Free Social Dance Lessons

Search “free social dance classes” or “free social dance lessons” to discover what dancing opportunities are available in your local area. Some standard free dance classes in communities across the nation include line dancing, swing, ballroom, and salsa.
3. Sing Karaoke

Do you enjoy singing? Nothing beats the experience of taking the stage, holding the microphone, and just going for it. You can order a soda, sing all night, and leave a generous tip for the time spent. Of course, if you’re ordering a ton of alcohol, this affordable hobby becomes less budget-friendly.
4. Participate in Trivia Nights

Similarly, if you avoid a hefty bar bill, you can have a ton of fun putting your wealth of knowledge to the test. From useless tidbits to undisputable facts, it’s a great time. Search “trivia nights” to discover where to find them in your community.
5. Enjoy Live Music at Coffee Shops

If the bar scene isn’t your thing, check out live entertainment in coffee shops. Did you know that for the price of a cup of coffee and a tip for time spent, you can enjoy live music in various coffee shops across the map?
6. Go On an Art Walk

An art walk is an event where artists publicly showcase their work with multiple other venues, galleries, and local businesses. Search “art walks” to find out when the next one is happening in your town.
7. Compete in Cornhole Competitions

My cousin introduced me to cornhole, and as silly as it appeared to me initially, it ended up being a lot of fun. Check out the American Cornhole Association to find cornhole tournaments near you.
8. Have a Dollar Store Paint Night

One of my creative family weekend activities is hosting a dollar store paint night. They usually have canvases of varying sizes, paints, paint brushes, sponges, glitter, and easels. Check out free painting tutorials on YouTube.
9. Visit a Farmer’s Market

Take a daytime stroll through your town’s farmer’s market and support local small businesses. Farmer Markets are one of the best places to find fresh, local honey (so you know it’s real), fresh fruits, and vegetables that are locally grown and in season.
10. Browse an Antique Shop

Take the weekend to stroll through some antique shops. This activity is more affordable when browsing than shopping, but there are many interesting things to view.
11. Go Geocaching

Visit the Geocaching website or download the app and start treasure hunting immediately. Choose your geocache and use your cell phone to navigate GPS. Once you find the geocache, sign the logbook, swap an item out, and put everything back how you found it. Don’t forget to bring a pen to sign the logbook!
12. Host a Game Night

Get a group of friends together and host a game night. What’s your gaming pleasure: classic board, tabletop role-playing, cards, or video games? Playing games is one of my favorite weekend activities. What’s yours?
