10 Things That Are Slowly Killing Americans Without Their Knowledge
Did you know that heart disease is the number one American killer? In fact, heart disease and cancer have been at the top of the death reason list for more than a decade and were responsible for more than 37% of U.S. deaths in 2021. Here are several other things that are slowly killing Americans, many without even realizing so.
1. Anger

While anger can be a positive and helpful emotion when appropriately expressed, uncontrolled anger has long-term physical effects such as headaches, high blood pressure, and anxiety.
The National Institutes of Health (NIH) reports anger and hostility are associated with the risk of coronary disease (CHD). They further note: “Chronic anger can lead to poor health behaviors leading to central adiposity and type 2 diabetes.”
2. Stress

Many Americans are aware that stress is dangerous. It’s known as “the silent killer.” However, most of us are too preoccupied with our stressors to realize how dangerous they are at the time. Stress can lead to serious health problems, including heart disease, high blood pressure, anxiety, depression, diabetes, and other illnesses.
3. Sedentary Lifestyle

The World Health Organization (WHO) clarifies: “Insufficient physical activity is the 4th leading risk factor for mortality. Approximately 3.2 million deaths and 32.1 million DALYs (representing about 2.1% of global DALYs) each year are attributable to insufficient physical activity.
People who are insufficiently physically active have a 20% to 30% increased risk of all-cause mortality compared to those who engage in at least 30 minutes of moderate-intensity physical activity most days of the week.”
One disability-adjusted life year (DALY) represents the loss of the equivalent of one year of full health. DALYs for a disease or health condition are the sum of the years of life lost due to premature mortality (YLLs) and the years lived with a disability (YLDs) due to prevalent cases of the disease or health condition in a population.
4. Sleep Deprivation

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reports that about one-third of U.S. adults usually get less than the recommended amount of sleep. Many chronic diseases and conditions are linked to not getting adequate sleep, including heart disease, type 2 diabetes, obesity, and depression.
5. Loneliness

New research indicates loneliness is killing people—a study published in an online edition of Nature Human Behaviour shows that people who are socially isolated or lonely have a dramatically increased risk of early death.
Web MD elaborates: “Social isolation increased the risk of early death by 32%, loneliness increased the risk by 14%, and it increased the risk of someone dying of cancer by 24% or of heart problems by 34%. Loneliness increased the risk of someone dying of cancer by 9%.
People with heart problems had a 28% increased risk of dying from any cause (not just of a heart condition) if they were socially isolated, and they had a 51% increased risk of dying from breast cancer. People with breast cancer had a 33% increased risk of dying due to a cancer-related cause if they were socially isolated.”
6. Microplastics

Microplastics are tiny plastic particles less than five millimeters in size that are found in virtually everything we consume. From bottled water to meat to cosmetics and clothing, these small plastic particles have made their way into everything and pose serious increased health risks of heart attack, stroke, and death.
7. Alcohol

Did you know that the alcohol industry spends an estimated $6 billion a year on advertising and promotions to get and keep you hooked? Alcohol is one of the most widely accepted addictions because so many people are doing it.
But the truth is, alcohol kills. From drunk driving accidents to diseases, including heart, liver, and seven different types of cancers, alcohol is one of the worst things society has embraced as a modern-day poison they willingly ingest.
8. The American Food Supply

The American food system is entirely corrupted and is poisoning its citizens. Did you know there are several chemicals banned in other countries that companies cater to while still adding the poison to the American version? How is that legal? Why aren’t more Americans aware of what is going on?
Processed food is terrible even when fortified or enriched, and pesticides slowly poison us. The FDA has sold us out: processed food, artificial colors, and cured meats are filled with cancer-causing chemicals.
Did you know that lunch meat, hotdogs, and other cured meats like bacon and jerky are on the WHO’s list of Group 1 carcinogens? That means they are listed alongside smoking and asbestos regarding cancer danger. How is this legal? How are either of those things on the market for our use or consumption? Can we all say “money.” It’s sickening.
9. Malnutrition

U.S. News & World Report says that malnutrition deaths have more than doubled in the U.S. in the past five years. More than 21,000 people died from malnutrition in 2022. Of course, a deep dive into the American food system quickly reveals that the FDA has sold out entirely and does not have Americans’ health at heart.
10. Chemicals

Between lotions, shampoos, hair dyes, cosmetics, cleaning supplies, and air fresheners, most Americans’ homes are full of toxic chemicals that cause cancer and other health issues, including asthma, and adversely affect sexual function and fertility in adults, or harm developing fetuses.
