15 Things That Smell Better Than Any Perfume Money Can Buy

Do you enjoy smell goods? Me too! Several wonderful smells are out there, better than any cologne or perfume money can buy. Here are some of my favorites. What’s yours?

1. Baked Goods Fresh From the Oven

Who doesn’t love the smell of freshly baked goods from the oven? It’s a toss-up between baked bread and chocolate chip cookies for me. However, all baked goods smell delicious.

2. Vanilla

Pure vanilla smells intoxicating, and the Madagascar vanilla is divine. My family boils homemade potpourri on the stove, and pure vanilla always goes in regardless of what else is in the pot. Costco has a great price on a 16-ounce bottle of vanilla extract.

3. Books

The fresh page smell when flipping through a new book is unmatched. Although, sometimes, the slight mustiness of used books is a welcomed one, too.

4. Woodworking Shop

The smell of freshly cut wood is fantastic, and each wood has a unique smell. Being from Washington state, it’s only natural that I love the smell of pine. But nothing beats the smell of cedar.

5. Fresh Cut Grass

One of the most extraordinary times of the year is when everyone pulls out their lawnmowers, and the outdoors permeates with the smell of freshly cut grass.

6. Snow

The smell that accompanies freshly fallen snow is incomparable. It’s often described as an earthy smell. However, some people smell a sweet floral smell with it. Still, those in urban areas may notice that their snow has an oily, dirtier smell due to the absorbing molecules in the air on the way to the ground.

7. Coffee

Coffee is one of the world’s most intoxicating smells, whether in bean form, freshly ground, or in the midst of brewing. I’ll never forget the delicious aroma of Arabic coffee when I was on a trip to Palestine. A man brought me an espresso shot in the street and to this day, it was the best coffee I’ve ever had, and I didn’t need any cream or sugar.

8. Citrus Peels

Do you prefer the scent of lemon or orange? Citrus peels smell incredible, and there are several ways to share their scent in your home. From the obvious eating them to making cleaning products with them or homemade potpourri, they make the environment smell great. Bonus points: Spiders hate citrus smells, so it’s perfect for a natural stay-out-of-my-house spider repellant.

9. Campfire

One of the best parts of making S’mores is watching the flames and enjoying the smell of the campfire. That being said, the scent it leaves on your clothing and hair is one of the worst smells you’ll ever encounter.

10. Petrichor

Are you familiar with Petrichor? It’s the earthly fragrance after it rains, a pleasant smell accompanying the first rain after a long period of warm, dry weather.

11. Cooking Garlic and Onions

The smell of frying up onions is magnificent, and garlic is out of this world, but cooking them together is heavenly. Fortunately, it’s a great combination of flavors in thousands of dishes. So, you likely enjoy this smell often.

12. Bacon

Why does bacon smell so remarkably good? I’ve never been a fan of eating it solo as a breakfast side, but the smell forced me to find ways to enjoy it, like in collard greens or on a baked potato.

13. Christmas Trees

One of the best parts of Christmas is the fresh pine smell that permeates throughout the house from freshly cut trees, so much so that I attempt to make my home smell that way because my artificial tree didn’t come with it!

14. Cinnamon

Cinnamon is the perfect smell to celebrate fall and the holidays. When you want your home to smell fantastic, boil some cinnamon water on the stove. Add vanilla extract, orange peels, cranberries, apples, pinecones, and/or cloves for a delightful holiday blend.

15. Fresh Flowers

Fresh flowers are another smell that is better than any perfume out there that money can buy—specifically lilacs, lavender, lily of the valley, jasmine, and roses.
